My name is Jenny Hansen. I am 16 years old and a sophomore in high school. On June 14, I learned the devastating news that my mentor and basketball coach, Nancy Polisso, had been diagnosed with ALS. I immediately felt that I needed to do something in such a helpless situation. That day, I decided to run an Ironman in her honor to raise awareness of ALS and to raise funds to find a cure. I learned that I could not compete in an Ironman until I was age 18, but I knew I could not wait that long because by then ALS may have taken a severe toll on Nancy’s life. So I chose to take action sooner and began BlazeKid for the Cure. I will train and race for the next two years to honor ALS patients and their families and to raise money to find a cure . . . a cure for Nancy and countless others...so that Nancy's kids and others won't have to lose their mom. I am planning on racing Arizona Ironman in November 2011, 3 weeks after I turn ge 18. My goal is to raise $40,000 in the next two years before I graduate from high school. So far, I have raised over $17,500. I broke an 11 year old course record for 17-19 year olds at the Wildflower Half-ironman distance race. Chrissie Wellington wrote about me on her blog . . . that is so cool!

Hello... Jenny..."Blazeman Warrior-BlazeKid", welcome and congratulations...you are a very special young lady...you have found very early in life the very "spirit" of what the meaning of life is, "the meaning of life is to live life"...to live in the moment...to find the causes that elevate us and determine what we shall be and become...
