Blazeman ALS Tissue Collection funding continues...(better understand ALS)..."so others may live".

Our partnership with the NICHD Brain and Tissue Bank at the University of Maryland continues as we have recently extended funding to November 2015.  The study of post-mortem tissue from individuals with ALS is critical to finding the cause of ALS.   If you have decided to become a  potential tissue donor, you are encouraged to register with the NICHD  Brain and Tissue Bank.

Bob, we had 7 ALS donation in 2013.  We are also getting a marked number of registrants;  through your efforts or our Google ad. Several of the cases came through Dr. Justin Kwan who is the new head of the ALS clinic at our hospital.  He is interested in the cases because he is surmising that certain types of neurons that are in the spinal cord are also found in the brain and that there may be an interrelationship.  My own thought is that perhaps injury to the brain could end up manifesting itself in the spinal cord.  Anyway, it is an idea that he is pursuing by doing MRI on the patients living and after they have died.
