Why did you become a Blazeman Warrior?
On November 6th, 2015 we got word that a close personal friend of ours had received his confirmed diagnosis of ALS. I am a 4 time Ironman Finisher and had heard of Jon's story since I began competing in 2010. That said, a very similar has now hit home for our family. It will be an absolute honor to carry the flag of ALS and join the other WARRIORS in the WarOnALS in memory of Jon and in support of our pALS ED in his fight!!

...........My IRONMAN purpose is here: Today, I join the War on ALS as part of Team Blazeman in honor of Ed Rapp (#TEAMRAPP) and become part of a greater purpose. I vow to never again 'walk' across a finish line. No matter the race, no matter the distance.........I will 'log roll' across the finish line and carry with me the WARRIOR Spirit of all those who can not.

To my pALS Ed: If I tire, I will think of you; If I want to quit, I will think of the courage you display every single day in the face insurmountable odds; I WON'T quit because YOU won't quit; I will always be strong and smile in the face of adversity, because you smile.......and I WILL for those who cannot.

We are striving to hear the words that have yet to be spoken, "I AM AN ALS SURVIVOR"...this will truly be a FREEDOM DAY...till then, we, BF-ALS, Team Blazeman, and "warriors" such as yourself James who share the belief in a "cure" for ALS... shall fight on...thank you for being one of these "warriors" we remember Jon's words, "we must fight the good fight"... Hi James,
What a beautiful and heartfelt letter!
We fully grasp everything you wrote...many of these thoughts were Jon's and ours...when he called upon the multisport community to race for a cause bigger than themselves he never knew that 10 years later we would be meeting athletes such as yourself.
Jon was a 20 yr triathlete having gotten bit by the sport when he was 12...after college he moved across the country to San Diego where he could train yr round and start his career as a special education teacher. He was working full time and working on his master's degree when his diagnosis was confirmed on May 2nd 2005...he had been having increased symptoms for at least a year. His last race season was in 2003 as his accelerated masters program and teaching left no room for triathlon...he figured he had that to look forward to in 2006 after he has the degree behind him...not to be...
Kona was always on his bucket list...ironically he had the opportunity to go in 2005 with ALS...he had not trained or raced in 2 yrs...we still are amazed that he was able to was sheer determination and experience that carried him through plus he felt he had the weight of all those pALS that wrote to him...
The most important thing I can tell you is to be there for ED...far too often, "friends" disappear...
Bob and I wish you a blessed Holiday season...enjoy your family, train safely and what ever you do..."get it on film" (Jon's words)
Mary Ann and Bob,
Jon's mom and dad
