Jon is believed to be the first person with ALS to attempt the Hawaii Ironman. As Blais put it, "Finishing the race is huge for me. No one is beating ALS. No one has done anything but walk away and die." His resolve to finish the race was unwavering as he stated, "Even if I have to be rolled across the finish line, I'm finishing." With a total time of 16:28:56, more than half an hour before the cutoff, he "log-rolled" across the finish line and is the first person with ALS to finish this race...FREEDOM!!!!

A comment on Jon's the "Last Full Measure"... BF-ALS... the very first "motto" seen on the main page of the Foundation (web-site) @ "center bottom" states..."Decision must be instant...Commitment must be total", -blazeman.  A moral imperative...he followed it to his last breath...and with death, his last "Full Measure", was to donate his "organs" researchers could learn and discover..."so others may live"..."Commitment was Total"...bdad...

Jon Blais (August 30, 1971 – May 27, 2007), also known as Blazeman, was one of the most inspiring triathletes noted for his fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and is the namesake of the Blazeman Foundation. Jon became the only individual with ALS to complete a full Ironman triathlon who once said that the meaning of life is to live life.

With the power and inspiration of Jon Blais by making clear to every human being that "Decision must be instant, and Commitment must be total", Jon became a powerful voice for ALS, using the sport he loved to help promote ALS awareness and fundraising to find a cure for this horrific disease.

You can find out more about his extraordinary life by visiting and, where athletes can join Team Blazeman to continue raising awareness and funds for ALS research and support for ALS patients. Thanks, Blazeman!
